Style Guide
This flag has an upright white two-headed labrys axe on a point-down black equilateral triangle on a purple field.
Meaning
The labrys is an ancient Mediterranean symbol of matriarchal power. The triangle was a Nazi symbol for “anti-social” groups, including lesbians. Purple is a common queer color.
About the Creator
Sean Campbell is a gay man and a graphic designer. He needed images for the June 2000 issue of Gay and Lesbian Times, and it was so new they didn’t have a photo archive yet, so he made several Pride flags instead. This is the first lesbian flag.
